Ever wondered how things work behind the scenes in theatre? On Saturday 15 November, Birds of Paradise Theatre Company (BOP) and the National Theatre of Scotland are teaming up to invite you backstage – quite literally!

Cue Backstage: Backstage Day was an opportunity for Disabled, D/deaf and/or Neurodivergent people who are interested in exploring the technical and creative world of theatre making.

This is part of our wider Cue Backstage project, which supports the development and creation of a more diverse production workforce across Scotland’s performing arts. On Backstage Day, you’ll get the chance to meet professionals working in lighting, sound, stage management, wardrobe and so much more.

Meet people, ask questions and hear first-hand what it’s like to work in backstage and offstage roles in theatre.

Who is it for?

Everyone is welcome!

The Backstage Day is for Disabled, D/deaf and/or Neurodivergent people of any age who are interested in learning more about how theatre is made.

The event is open to anyone curious about backstage work, including those who may believe it is not accessible. It will be suitable for all ages and career stages, whether you are just starting out, considering a career change, or facing barriers at work.

Saturday 15th November, 10:30am – 1:00pm
National Theatre of Scotland, Rockvilla

How will it be accessible?

We’re committed to making the Backstage Day as accessible and welcoming as possible.
We will have various access tools available for the event. This will include:

• Two roaming BSL/Sign Language Interpreters
• One roaming Sighted Guide / Personal Assistant
• A remote live captioner for the welcome
• A quiet space
• Sensory Bags available
• Masks and hand sanitiser provided
• Accessible bathrooms throughout the building
• The nearest Changing Places Toilet is at Glasgow Queen Street Station

Please let us know about any additional access requirements by 5pm on Monday 10th November. Please note we will do our best to support individuals access and explain clearly what we can and cannot do in the case of this event.

Rockvilla has level access and is wheelchair accessible.
There are multiple accessible toilets within the building. 
There are two disabled parking spaces in the car park outside the main entrance.
